Since my last blog post was all about ditching social media, I thought it might be fun to list out some of my favorite (and SO much more rewarding!) activities to replace obsessively checking and scrolling through your feed. In my experience, replacing social media time with these activities significantly decreased how often I felt sad, anxious, angry, fearful, or inadequate. I hope they can do the same for you!

Without further ado, here are 31 things you can do instead of doom-scrolling:
1. Bake bread or your favorite sweet treat.
2. Read a book, magazine, poetry collection, or map.
3. Plan a dream vacation.
4. Make lists: to-do lists, bucket lists, wish lists, gratitude lists, idea lists, prayer lists, or a list of your best qualities.
5. Watch a funny movie, get lost in a TV series, or find inspiration in vlogs or how-to’s on YouTube.
6. Work with your hands to knit, sew, weave, mold, crochet, mend, or embroider.
7. Make a cup of tea or coffee and savor the experience of drinking it.
8. Go on a walk, run, or bike around your neighborhood.
9. Ask your spouse (or kids, friends, grandparents, cousins, anybody!) fun questions to get to know them better. There are lists of questions on Pinterest or you can buy conversation cards online.
10. Create a capsule wardrobe.
11. Build a fire in your wood stove, fireplace, or outdoor fire pit. Allow yourself to be still, present, and mesmerized by the flames.
12. Play a nostalgic board game, video game, or computer game that you played as a kid.
13. Plan a future flower or vegetable garden.
14. Learn something new. Like how to make sourdough, can jams and pickles, make beautiful bouquets, or care for chickens.
15. Plan and make DIY gifts in advance for Christmas, Birthdays, or just because.
16. Declutter and organize a drawer, a closet, a room, or your entire house.
17. Do an at-home workout, or just stretch and breathe.
18. Create a themed dinner menu, complete with a signature cocktail or mocktail.
19. Color, paint, draw, or play with modeling clay.
20. Journal.
21. Go out with a camera and take pictures of anything that catches your eye.
22. Write a story, poem, or letter.
23. Cuddle your dog or cat.
24. Listen to a podcast or audiobook.
25. Love on your family. Give a long hug, offer a massage or back scratch, or brush and play with their hair (I can’t be the only one who likes this).
26. Design a vision board full of inspiration you love or tack up favorite quotes and pictures around your house.
27. Make your own skincare products like homemade beeswax lip balm, sugar scrubs, or whipped tallow.
28. Reach out to a friend or family member and ask how their day is going.
29. Take a relaxing shower or bath and get done up and dressed however makes you feel the most beautiful.
30. Go sledding, skipping, roller skating, hula hooping, blow bubbles, get out the jump rope, swing on the swings, jump on the trampoline, or slide down the slide. Whatever makes you feel like a kid again.
31. Pamper yourself with a home manicure or pedicure (or splurge at a salon!)
If you are trying to cut back or quit social media and decide to give any of these ideas a try, let me know how it goes! Also, feel free to share below YOUR favorite activities :)
Until next time!
